Fishing Page

I have been accomplishing a lot of scrapbook pages lately. Mostly for a book for Rick's Mom, so I can't show those pages yet til I give it to her. But in the midst of doing those pages, I did this page. I was so excited to use the Archaic line from Basic Grey. Rick isn't one to see all the stuff I bring home usually, but I showed him this paper line because I was so excited about it, and he said...that would be perfect for a fishing page. The next day, he went out and caught the fish you see below. So I knew I had to do a page for him, and using this line. He was pretty excited about it. I have to do a little journaling yet. A title that will say "Wanda" and the weight, and size of the fish below that. Enjoy!

Rick's Biggest Fish

Rick went ice fishing with his Dad and Carla today. Using his Tip Up, he caught, with the help of his dad...a 28.6 lb pike (or a jack fish as some may call it). It was 46" long, and had a 22" belly. This is the BIGGEST fish Rick has ever caught. Not only that, he also pulled it up by hand, and the fish had almost his whole line unreeled and in the water. After they got the fish out, they weighed it, and measured it. A few other ice fishermen came over to see the fish and take pictures.

So as every man has his fishing stories, this is Rick's story, as he told me:

The flag went up on the Tip Up, so Rick went over to see if there was anything on the line. As he was walking over there, he could see the spool still spinning. He started to pull in his line (you have to pull it in by hand because it doesn't have a reel), while he was pulling it in, he didn't think it was that big at first, cause there wasn't that big of a pull. He handed his line to his dad to get his opinion, and he agreed. When he handed it back to Rick, Rick felt a huge pull. But the overall fight wasn't as big and didn't take as long for the size of fish it was.

So until he got it right up to the hole, they had no idea what Rick was dealing with beneath the ice. Rick was trying to keep his line from getting to tangled up on the ice as he was pulling it in, and when he looked back into the hole, all he could see was a big open mouth. Ricks dad grabbed the his home made gaff (hook), and stuck it in his mouth and lifted the fish out onto the ice.

He looked at his dad, and said, this is almost as good as winning the Street Stock Shootout. He was so glad that he got to share this day, and this moment with his dad, because any time that Rick won a race, his dad was the first one out in victory lane with him. And today, his dad was right there on the ice fishing victory lane. Rick and his dad have been competing (in fun) to catch "Waldo" for a couple of years now. The kid Gott-R-Done, ha.

The smaller fish is 5 lbs. This just shows the comparison between an average pike, and the one they caught. An average pike weighs between 2-5 lbs. This fish is almost 30 lbs.

Kaylee's First Boat Ride

This past weekend we took the girl for a boat ride out at my dads. It was Kaylee's first boat ride EVER...she was pretty excited. MacKenzie has been for a few rides before. While we were getting the boat ready, MacKenzie was standing on the broken dock, just Asking for her picture to be taken. The way she is posing reminds me of when I was younger, I use to stick my hip out and think I was 'cool' ... lol. So I just had to share this one.

MacKenzie was testing out her rod on the Zelma 'Ocean' but she didn't catch anything this time


Kaylee also tried out her rod too..but she got bored quickly because the fish weren't biting her hook either

I however caught two fish in the hour we were out on the lake. The girls were so excited that a fish swam right up to the boat so I could pick it up. They were hanging on the edge of the boat when I was reeling it in so that they could get a better view.

I haven't been able to post much lately as my computer is SO close to dying. I get a NEW one hopefully on Wednesday it should be ready to go. Then I won't have problems posting or loading pictures. I have a ton of scrapbooking layouts as well I would like to post..hopefully by the end of the week I can do that.

MacKenzie's First Fish

Tonight was MacKenzie's and Kaylee's first time fishing. So tonight we decided to bike down to the fishing pond and go fishing. MacKenzie caught her first fish, and she did it all by herself. Rick and I are so proud. Not many 3 year olds can say they caught a fish by themselves, and actually be telling the truth. The first cast out, MacKenzie brought in a cray fish, but I didn't have my camera handy, and it didn't stick around long enough for me to get it. Either Rick or I would cast out for her and kaylee, and then they would reel it in by themselves. When MacKenzie first told us she got a fish, we didn't believe her because she said that every time her line was in the water. Once Rick seen her line, he believed her and watched her reel in her fish, and talked her through it. She brought it all the way up to shore, and then Rick took it off the line for her (of course for safety reasons). So she caught it by herself for as much as a 3 year old can actually do. Then Rick caught a couple and let her reel them in.

Kaylee tried fishing too. She didn't catch anything though. But she still had fun reeling it in "by herself". She wouldn't let me help her at all once she figured out how it worked.


So all in all, it was a great night of fishing. I didn't catch anything, but thats ok, because tonight was all about the girls. And they had fun. I guess they will have to take both their Grandpa's out and show them how its done. I am definitely looking forward to taking them out again.
